VU SA KnF, founded in 1991, is one of the oldest student self-government organizations in Kaunas. The representation, which was then called VU KHF SR (the old name - Student Representation of Kaunas University Faculty of Humanities), was founded by Tomas Palšis, the current CEO of UAB ACME Grupė, a company engaged in the supply of information media and computer accessories. The idea of the students to unite came after the threat of the closure of the Kaunas faculty. Active students strongly opposed this. The students' determination and ambition convinced the administration of the faculty and it was decided to give the organisation more freedom to act. 29 years have passed since then, and the VU SA KnF has changed considerably, but the basic principle has remained the same - to act for the good of the students.

Over the years, the name of the organisation has changed several times: at the beginning it was the Student Representation of the Kaunas Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University (VU KHF SR), later, after a change of the faculty's name, it became the Student Representation of the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University (VU KnF SR), and since 2017, after joining the Student Representation of Vilnius University and becoming a single organisation, it has become the Student Representation of the Vilnius University at the Kaunas Faculty of Humanities (VU SR KnF).

The highest priority of the Student Representation is the quality representation of students in various commissions, Study Programme Committees, VU KnF Council and the improvement of the study process. The Representation also takes care of students' social welfare, dissemination of information at the Faculty, implementation of various projects and quality leisure time by organising events that have become a tradition: social actions (Blood Donation Campaign, Day of Tolerance, etc.), protmos, VU KnF Freshmen Camp, Christmas evening with the lecturers and the administration, River of Souls. This initiative, which started in 2002 and is well-known in Kaunas, was appreciated by the Mayor of Kaunas in January 2008. Algirdas Kviklis, the then President of the Students' Representation, was awarded the Crystal of Kindness for organising the River of Souls. Thanks to the Representation, the Faculty also runs the VU SR Mentor Programme, which trains mentors - senior students, whose aim is to help first-year Bachelor's and Master's students to join the friendly VU KnF community, to get acquainted with the Faculty and to share the most important information. The VU SR KnF also runs the Honestly programme, which fights against academic dishonesty. Throughout its existence, the Representation has been working closely with the administration of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty, other Student Representations both in Kaunas and abroad, and the Central Office of the Vilnius University Student Representation.

During the 23 years of its existence, the VU SR KnF has had many leaders, including Regimantas Buožius, Ramūnas Pilvelis, Laurynas Mitkas, Egidijus Merkevičius Renata Pauliukaitytė, Mindaugas Jasiulis, Jurgita Skirmantaitė, Rasa Vileikytė, Edvinas Jančiauskas, Birutė Zumaraitė, Tadas Žirgulis, Algirdas Kviklis, Julius Spudvilas, Gintarė Lazdinytė, Lukas Jakštas, Domas Varanauskas, Justas Paulikas, Indrė Zabulytė, Ernestas Basovas, Neda Žutautaitė, Lijana Savickienė, Titas Repšys. Naturally, not only the personalities of the presidents differed, but also their principles and working methods, but the most important goal is always to represent the students properly.

In the spring of 2024, Austėja Simonaitytė was elected chairwoman of VU SR KnF.

VU SR KnF strives to continuously improve itself, to increase the competences and knowledge of its members, to foster traditional events, to adhere to the idea of an open and united organisation, to create a community atmosphere not only within the Representation, but also within the entire Faculty. The members of the organisation work for the benefit of the students without remuneration, with creativity, originality and meaningful ideas.
